What we collect, and why
Last updated 28 September 2026
Who we are
This site is run by Gems — currently a trading name, not yet an incorporated company. If that changes, this notice will be updated with our registered company details.
If you don't sign up
We use anonymous, cookieless product analytics (PostHog, hosted in the EU) to understand how this site is used — page views, scroll depth, which buttons get tapped, and where in a signup someone stops. This doesn't use cookies or browser storage, isn't tied to your name or contact details, and isn't linked to who you are unless you go on to sign up. We also use Vercel Web Analytics, which counts page views the same way, without cookies. Because it's cookieless, there's no cookie banner on this site — there's nothing non-essential being stored in your browser to ask consent for.
If you sign up as a creator
We collect:
- Your first name, mobile number and email, and whether you'd rather be contacted by text, email or both
- The area you're based in and the areas you'd travel to
- The nights and time of day you're usually free
- Your Instagram and/or TikTok handle
- Where you came from: if you arrive through a link with campaign tags (for example from our Instagram or TikTok bio or one of our emails), or from another website, we record that with your sign-up. We keep it in the page only while you browse — nothing is stored in your browser.
- Dietary requirements, if you choose to tell us. These are optional, and some (for example halal, kosher or an allergy) can reveal something about your religion or health — so we only collect them because you choose to give them, and use them only to match you with places you can eat at. If you add free-text notes, we ask for a separate tick to confirm you consent to us using them for that, and record when you gave it.
If you sign up as a venue
We collect:
- Your venue's details — either looked up via Google Places when you search for it (in which case your search text is sent to Google), or typed in directly if you add it manually
- Your name, role, email and mobile number, and whether you'd rather be contacted by text, email or both
- What you serve — cuisine and any dietary options — and the nights that are quiet for you
- Anything you add in the optional notes field
Why we collect it, and what we use it for
We use your details to match creators with venues on nights that suit both, and to contact you — by text, chat or email, as you've chosen — about that match. That's the only reason we ask for it.
We only contact you if you've ticked the consent checkbox on the signup form — it's unticked by default, and you can withdraw that consent at any time by emailing gemma@getgems.app. We don't use your number or email for anything else, and we don't sell or share it with anyone outside the services listed below.
Who we share it with
- Supabase stores the data you submit, hosted in the EU (Ireland).
- Google receives your search text if you look up a venue by name, or search for an area or postcode, on a signup form — that's Google Places, and is only used for that lookup.
- postcodes.io, a free UK postcode service, receives the map coordinates of an area you pick on the creator form, to work out its postcode area. It never receives your name or contact details.
- PostHog receives the anonymous, cookieless analytics events described above, hosted in the EU.
- Resend sends the emails this site sends you, such as sign-up confirmations, and delivers your form messages to our team, so it processes your email address and the content of those emails.
- Vercel hosts this site, so it processes the technical details of your visit, such as your IP address, as it serves pages.
Outreach email tracking
If we email you about Gems (for example as a creator or a restaurant), our emails may contain a tracking pixel and tracked links. These record when an email is opened or a link is clicked, together with your email address, the link destination and the time. We use this to understand whether our outreach is working and to follow up appropriately. This tracking does not record your IP address or device information. You can opt out of outreach emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email. We keep these tracking records for 12 months and then delete them automatically.
How long we keep it
If you sign up but we haven't launched in your area yet, we keep your details so we can reach you once we do. After 12 months we email you to ask whether you still want to be on the list. If you confirm, we keep your details for another 12 months; if you don't confirm within 30 days, we delete them. You can also ask us to delete your details sooner, at any time.
Separately, to stop floods of automated requests, our servers keep the IP address of requests to our forms, unsubscribe page and email links for up to 24 hours, then delete it.
Your rights
You can ask us what we hold about you, ask us to correct it, ask us to delete it, or withdraw your consent to be contacted — any time, no reason needed. Email gemma@getgems.app and we'll action it.
Every outreach email includes an unsubscribe link. When you unsubscribe we keep your email address on a suppression list, with the time you did it, purely so we don't email you again. You can resubscribe from the same page at any time.
Cookies
The only cookie this site sets is on our own internal admin sign-in page, not on any page you use. It's strictly necessary (it just keeps our team member signed in for that browser session) and is deleted automatically when the browser closes, so it needs no consent banner. No other part of this site sets cookies.
Changes to this notice
If anything here changes, we'll update this page and change the date at the top.
